Jim Montpelier’s memoirs

These are scorecards from Jim Montpelier’s top twelve courses in the World which he has played. From left to right they are: Harbour Town, Lake Karrinyup, Gullane 1, Gleneagles Kings, Penha Longa, Pezula, Aloha, Mahony’s Point, Vilamoura 1, Reef Golf Club Seychelles. Criteria include environment, the welcome, and his ability to remember all the course.

Jim Montpelier has recently emerged as a backup writer to Jock Kirkcaldy, offering an alternate take on the usual short story format: his work encompasses some of his international travels, blending golf matches with venues and happenings recorded and remembered during his fifty years of golf travel.

His first story offers absent-minded reminisces about his world travels as a golf raconteur, while playing a needle match against Bill Mandlay, his regular opponent.

He uses incidents occurring during the match to allude to events from his extensive golfing experience at home and abroad, and fights back from a losing position against an opponent to whom he concedes many handicap strokes.   It emerges however that he enjoys the unequal struggle, and always looks forward immensely to the next battle.
